Now the final preparations are complete and Exigit Sincerae… is gnawing at the bars. When word of these practitioners of perversity reached the stronghold of Comatose Music dark agents were swiftly on the wing, searching out the monsters of Strappado and bringing them safely back to the cells. The bestial roars will transport you to cold dungeons, the bone-breaking drum battery will pin you to the table of torture, the intricate riffs will methodically dissect your fear wracked body and the murderous bottom end will bludgeon your remains into paste. ‘The Rack’, ‘Death By Sawing’, ‘Dislocated By The Rope’ each Frankenstein’s monster of riffs and blast beats, sewn together with vicious precision, is a glorification of the most base depravity. Born from a ghoulish fascination with the inhumanity of man, Strappado celebrate the unconscionable, the brutality that lurks beyond the shadowy borders of the imagination. The ghosts of those broken upon the rack, the spirits of those who have cried for mercy, bound in chains…their desperate pleas dance a twisted waltz to the devilish arias of agony unveiled upon the altar of Strappado’s Exigit Sincerae Devotionis Affectus. The screams of the tortured have echoed through the centuries, endless music to the ears of the perverted and demented. Mankind can shame the demonic denizens of hell when it comes to the fine art of cruelty. Over the ages we have birthed countless monstrous machines and hellish contraptions, all with the sole purpose of causing pain. There is no creature like man no species that has devoted such careful thought, such ingenuity to the development of methods of inflicting agony. He had trouble at first locating them, but he found Trevor Belmont, who agreed to the task, and Trevor was able to overcome the threat posed by Dracula with aid of several companions.STRAPPADO – EXIGIT SINCERAE DEVOTIONIS AFFECTUS Finally, he searched far and wide for a member of the Belmont clan, who decided to live far from Valachia and were feared by the people as much as the vampires they hunted. He then sent the mystical warrior Sypha Belnades to do the job, but she never came back either and was believed to have died. He first sent a large army to defeat Dracula, but it was destroyed. The Pope during the time of Dracula's war on humanity tried to deal with the Count. This would simply mean the confusion is a case of semantics: rather than Trevor and Sypha being contacted by the Pope of the Eastern Orthodox Church, which would be erroneous en lieu of the nature of Eastern Orthodoxy, they were probably contacted by the Pope through/via the Eastern Orthodox Church. Indeed, the Romanian Orthodox Church became the Romanian Catholic Orthodox centuries later. Considering Wallachia was a tributary of the Ottoman Empire at the time, it would be reasonable to assume the Orthodox Church in Romania at some point weighed in on realigning itself with the Pope. In regards to the papacy within the Eastern Orthodox Church, it is worth noting Pope Sixtus IV made efforts to bridge the schism between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, likely as an effort to increase Catholic influence in Ottoman territory. Pope Sixtus IV ardently opposed the Ottoman Turks by ordering a failed Crusade. On a darker note, the Pope issued the Exigit Sinceras Devotionis Affectus, establishing the Spanish Inquisition as it is remembered today, but was unable to rein in the rampant torturing. Pope Sixtus IV was notable for sanctioning the Sistine Chapel and ushering in the Italian Renaissance. Very likely the Pope mentioned in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse was Pope Sixtus IV, who reigned from 1471 to 1484, putting Trevor Belmont's adventures well within Sixtus IV's papacy. It is possible that the Pope was also the head of the Orthodox Church in Castlevania lore or that there was a separate "Pope" for the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches, although the latter is unlikely since the Orthodox Church does not believe in the infallibility of a Pope. The differences between the Catholic Church and Greek Orthodox Church have been blurred in Castlevania mythos.
